Police Officers Discover 14 Adorable Bunnies After Responding To ‘Disturbance’ At Park

In Chula, Vista, California — police officers paid a visit a few weeks back to a park to investigate on a very adorable but odd disturbance. 

So where were the owners?

Sadly, it was thought that they had abandoned the sweet creatures.
And pet bunnies, unlike their wild relatives, are not as equipped with the same survival skills.

But thankfully, the police officers were able to quickly contain the pets.
They then took the 11 adult rabbits along with three babies to Chula Vista Animal Care Facility.

Unfortunately, it is very common for folks to abandon their pets that they no longer desire or are unable to care for.

But thankfully with the help of a few big-hearted officers, the pet rabbits were found.

“Unfortunately, some people get rabbits before they do their research and get quickly overwhelmed,” rescue coordinator for the shelter, Linda Septon, shared with The Dodo. “They see wild rabbits in parks and think this may be their solution by letting their pets loose. We want to stress that releasing domestic animals into the wild is not the answer. Domestic rabbits lack the instinct and, as you can see in the photos, the camouflage to survive predators.”

And thanks to the facility, the rabbits each have their own pen along with toys, boxes (to take cover in) and lots of hay to eat.
Now, all that’s left is for the bunnies to find their forever home.
Both staff and volunteers are keeping the bunnies comfortable as well as playing with the bunch, along with litter box training to help make the transition to a family pet when the time comes, easier.

“Staff members decided to give all of the rabbits fairy tale names because they will now have happy endings,” Septon said. “The 11 adults are currently available for adoption. They will be spayed or neutered and microchipped before going to their forever homes.”

But it would not be possible without the kindness and patience of the police officers who rescued the bunch of adorable bunnies.
